7. These Things Were Good Enough to Eat

Who else finds Lip Smackers nostalgic? Oh, sweetheart. These were excellent things. Though most of us 90s kids didn't have to apply chapstick every five minutes in class, that's exactly what we did. That was, after all, what was expected of those with Lip Smackers! That's because, particularly varieties like Candy Confetti and Berry Jelly Donut, these chapsticks smelled incredibly fantastic. But did anyone use these items a little too liberally? You have to at least taste something nice you are putting on your lips at least once. Still, these items need to have come with a caution advising people not to consume them! Lip Smackers were a cultural phenomenon defining the introduction to cosmetic products for a whole generation, not only lip balm. The brand transformed the idea of flavored lip care so that a fundamental need became a collector sensation. Children would trade them like money, weighing uncommon tastes and arguing over which ones smelt best. From Dr Pepper to Watermelon, from Cotton Candy to Root Beer Float, the range was mind-bowing. A status symbol was having a complete collection on show in your pencil box; the vibrant tubes soon permeated classroom life alongside notebooks and pencils. Some even matched their daily taste preference to their clothing or attitude. The recipe was ideal too: just waxy enough to stay on but silky enough to feel opulent. And let's be honest: most of us couldn't resist the occasional small taste of these remarkably delicious-smelling balms even though we knew better.
